Gameplay

An alien power has taken over Earth's military forces, and you are the only one who is not affected by these aliens. You gather additional armament while you engage in enemy infantry. The games contains a total of eight levels. In Silent Assault, your amount of lives are represented by how many commandos you have. Your health in game is represented by small shields displayed on screen.

At the start of every game you begin with three commandos, each processing three shields. When you come into contact with an enemy or bullets, you lose half a shield on your current commando; when a commando is out of shields you lose that commando. You can gather hearts to gain back shields, these hearts appear randomly after gunning down enemies.

Critical reception

A writer of French magazine Joystick, scoring Silent Assault an 81%, called it an "excellent platform game", praising its challenge and varied level design. His only criticism was the "jerky" movement of the character being controlled. On the other hand, Aktueller Software Markt was very harsh towards the game, criticizing it's presentation, ridiculously easy-to-defeat enemies and bosses, and bad storyline. Andy Slaven, writing in his book Video Game Bible, 1985-2002, called Silent Assault "another sub par Color Dreams side scrolling shooter", noting its "extremely dark" yet "simple" graphics.
