Early life

Campusano grew up in the Santo Domingo suburb of Manoguayabo and together with Ramón Martínez and Juan Guzmán served as inspiration for Pedro Martínez to play for Tigres del Licey.

Major league baseball

He was signed by the Dominican scout Epy Guerrero as an international free agent for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1983. And he was ranked Baseball America's top prospect from 1986 to 1988.

Campusano both batted and threw right-handed, as an outfielder. His first season was for the Toronto Blue Jays, in 1988. He played 79 games and had 142 at bats. He got 31 hits, 14 runs, with 2 home runs, and 12 runs batted in. After playing the entire 1989 season in the minor leagues, he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1990. He accumulated 18 hits in 66 games and 85 at bats. Again he hit 2 home runs and had 9 runs batted in. In 1991, also for Philadelphia, he played in 15 games to complete his major league career.

Sil is best known to Phillies fans as a below average player who broke up Doug Drabek's no hitter in August 3, 1990. He confessed not being any nervous neither felt any pressure, besides the game was just one out short to end.

Dominican winter league

He played for Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Republic for 11 years, winning the 1991, undefeated, and the 1994 Caribbean Series. He led the league in doubles in the 1991–92 season and the runs category in 1992–-93. During 1993–94, he led the runs, home runs and walks categories, batted for the cycle in the final series and was named Most Valuable Player.

Taiwan leagues and aftermath

After leaving MLB Campusano enjoyed a prosperous career in CPBL, playing for the Wei Chuan Dragons (1994–1996) being HR champion in 1994 and Chiayi-Tainan Luka (1997–1999), Taiwan Major League champion in 1997. Campusano ended his career in the Mexican League acting as manager/player with the Langosteros de Cancún in 2000. Since 2013 he serve as batting coach for Tigres del Licey.
