Sibpur S.S.P.S. Vidyalaya

History

This institution was established in the year 1950 soon after the independence of India. At first the school was at Haru Mistri Lane, Howrah, India, beside the Shalimar railways. In the year 1953 the school switched to its present address. The present building was built in 1952. Shri Yogesh Chandra Mukhopadhyay (Bengali: শ্রী যোগেশচন্দ্র মুখোপাধ্যায়), the founder of the school, contributed his personal land for the school building purpose. He was elected the first Secretary of the Managing Committee of the school. In 1954 the school was recognized by the Government. In the beginning days the schools provided education up to grade VI. In 1955, the school introduced herself as a Secondary School stretching to grade X. Higher Secondary section was included later in 1962 and in 1977 this institution received permission for Higher Secondary Examination.The school's first Higher Secondary Examination held in 1979.

Campus

The centre of the school campus is its playground. Two sides of the playground is adjacent to two three-storied building, lying perpendicular to each other. One is the main building, constructed in 1952 and other building in newer, set up in 1962. At the end of the ground there is a school auditorium. It was built in the year 1981. There is also a primary section with the name Bharadwaj Shikshasram (Bengali: ভরদ্বাজ শিক্ষাশ্রম).

Students

Sibpur S.S.P.S. Vidyalaya has around 1000 students in attendance. Each class is separated between two or three sections i.e. A, B and C and each of which contain around average 50 students. Class XI and XII are divided into three 'streams' known as Science, Arts (Humanities) and Commerce. 'Arts' stream was introduced in 2011 while 'Science' and 'Commerce' is older than it.

Uniform

There is an assortment of school uniforms, for different classes. The uniforms of students are very similar from Classes V to XII, barring a few subtle modifications. The uniforms, however, are not different in for the Secondary and Higher Secondary sections. In the former years the school uniform included khaki (e.g.      ) pants, which was changed to black (e.g.      ) in later years.

White shirts with the school emblem on the pocket, black pants and a black school shoe. An navy blue sweater is additional for winter. From class VII to XII black full-pants is compulsory.

Emblem

The logo or emblem, knitted in a square piece of cloth, of the institution includes the school name, year of establishment and the motto: 'শ্রদ্ধাবান্ লভতে জ্ঞানম' , this Sanskrit phrase denotes that most credited or honoured person attains the knowledge. There are four color schemes in the emblem of the institution. Each of them depicts a house from the following 4 houses. The houses and their respective colors are:

This color sequence continuously cycles after four roll numbers. The Vidyasagar House was previously named Jogiraj House after Sri Shyamacharan Lahiri.

School Anthem

School begins with the prayer song Jana Gana Mana, the national anthem of India. Prior to that a short Sanskrit anthem is also recited. This is the No. 9 principle of 'Taittirīya' (Bengali: তৈত্তিরীয়) Upanishads. In this mantra it is being prayed that:
