Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) organizing Shpageeza Cricket Tournament every year in Alokozay Kabul International Cricket Stadium, Kabul Afghanistan. ACB established the Shpageeza tournament with six franchise, players from overseas, the national team, players from the ‘A’ team and players from the under 19 team as well as players from the elite performer from respective region participate in this tournament. In addition, ACB have given the league an identity by franchising all team while players will be selected trough draft for each team. The ultimate goal of this 12-day tournament is promoting cricket and sports in Afghanistan and establishing peace through sports. This tournament broadcast live on Afghanistan’s prominent TV channel (1TV) using HD quality production standards and commercializing the Tournament by franchising and marketing each team to a company/organization. Through the design and broadcast of this tournament, Afghans will have firsthand access to watch their national players in home ground.

Contents

History

The League was established in 2013 titled as Shpageeza Cricket Tournament. Five regional teams participated in the event and it was a successful initiative by Afghanistan Cricket Board. The champion of the first league was Shpeenghar Tigers for the inaugural edition of the tournament. The matches were telecasted from Shmashad TV. The second edition was conducted with the same number of team each representing out five regions in the country. Mis-e-Ainak Knights won the title championship. Gulbadin Naib was named Man of the tournament; Noor Ali was the best batsman and Rokhan Barekzai was named the best bowler of this edition. The matches were telecast on 1TV.

Teams

Shpageeza Cricket was played among 5 regions of Afghanistan but a sixth team was added in the 2015 edition (Kabul Eagles), officially sponsored by Aatif Mashal. Here are those teams participating in the Shpagiza tournament of T20 format;

  • Spinghar Prangan (Speen Ghar Tigers), captained by Afghan star fast bowler Hamid Hassan and coached by Hasti Gul. The team represents the provinces of Kunar, Nooristan, Laghman and Nangarhar.
  • Band-e-Amir Khamaran (Band-e-Amir Dragons), captained by Afghan star all-rounder and former national captain Mohammad Nabi and coached by Australian coach Peter Anderson. Which represents the provinces of Kabul, Kapisa, Maidan Wardak, Parwan, Bamyan, Dai Kundi and Panjsher.
  • Bost Satunki (Boost Defenders), captained by Afghan left arm batsman Najib Zadran and coached by Abdul Wali Amin. The team represents represents the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Zabul, Nimroz, Herat, Farah, Ghor and Badghis.
  • Mes Ainak Atalan (Mis Ainak Knights), captained by former Afghan national captain Nawroz Mangal and coached by Raees Ahmadzai. The team represents the provinces of Khost, Logar, Paktia, Paktika and Ghazni. The team was the champion of the league in 2014.
  • Amu Nehangan (Amo Sharks), captained by Afghan national medium fast bowler Mirwais Ashraf and coached by Dawlat Ahmadzai. Which represents the provinces of Kunduz, Takhar, Jawzjan, Badakhshan, Balkh, Baghlan, Samangan, Sar-i-Pul and Faryab.
  • Kabul Bazan (Kabul Eagles): This team was added to the league in 2015. The team is captained by national side captain (Asghar Stanikzai) and coached by [Dawlat Ahmadzai].
  • Champions

    The champion of 2016 edition was the Kabul Eagles. The champion of 2015 edition was the Spinghar Prangan (Speenghar Tigers). The champion of 2014 edition where the Mir Ainak Atalan (Mir Ainak Knights).
