  • Layout

The station is one of two stations with switchback layout in Shikoku, the other being Tsubojiri Station. The single platform is on a siding divided from the middle of a 25 ‰ slope. A train from Tosa-Yamada first enters into the siding with the platform. After passengers getting on and off, it goes backward to another siding, again changes direction and enters to the main line toward Shigetō. Trains that do not stop at the station do not use the sidings.

    History

Shinkai Signal Yard opened on November 28, 1935 and was converted to a passenger station on June 1, 1947. The station name was changed from Shinkai to Shingai, with no change of kanji script, on December 15, 1956.
