Early life

According to the 14th century chronicler Isami, Shihab-ud-Din was Alauddin's son from Jhatyapali, the daughter of Ramachandra of Devagiri.

Reign under Malik Kafur's regency

Allauddin Khilji, the greatest ruler of the Khiljis, died on 3 January 1316. Malik Kafur, the commander-in-chief of the army, placed the young Shibabuddin on the throne and became the regent. Kafur executed all the princes having any claim to the throne. The eyes of Princes Khizr Khan and Shadi Khan were ordered to be cut out. Prince Mubarrak was detained in the Palace of Thousand Pillars but escaped using his cleverness. Nobles and Slaves of Allauddin were also punished. Kafur ruled for 35–36 days before being assassinated by Allauddin's bodyguards. In April 1316 Prince Mubarrak detained Shibabuddin and became the Sultan. Shibabuddin was moved to Gwalior where he died the same year.
