Shih-Wen Huang MD, (born September 25, 1936) is a Pediatric Allergist and a professor of pediatrics known for his research and discoveries in the field of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology. He is currently a Professor Emeritus of pediatrics and head of the Pediatric Allergy Clinic at the University of Florida. He is also one of the doctors at UF Health Shands Hospital that specialize in Allergy & Immunology.

Early life and education

Shih-Wen Huang was born in Tainan County, Taiwan. He had his early education at Cheng Kong Boys Junior High and Cheng Kong Boys Senior High, Taipei, Taiwan (1949 – 1953). He had his medical training at the College of Medicine, National Taiwan University, Taiwan (1955-1962).

Huang did Rotatory Residential Internship at the Department of Pediatrics, National Taiwan University, Taipei Taiwan (1961-1962). He had his Medical Research Fellowship at the US Naval Medical Research Unit No.2 Taipei, Taiwan (1964 -1967). He did Pediatric Internship and Residency at the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, United States (1967-1970). He also did Post-doctoral fellowship in Immunology at the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, USA (1970 –1973).

Academic and medical career

Shih-Wen Huang began his academic and medical career as a Pediatric Allergist, Immunologist and Pediatrician. During his active years; (1964 to 2007), He was a Medical Professor, Chief of Allergy and Immunology in the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. He was also same for the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA where he has been serving as a Professor Emeritus since 2007 till date.

Huang provided service in allergy clinic for various allergic disorders that plague children and adults. He engaged his knowledge of immunology in researching and exploring the causes of various immunologic and allergic disorders including Type 1 diabetes on children as well as their possible treatments. He was consulted on Dr. Yang's research on Peanut allergy and other Food allergy researches. He conducted a research on Allergic rhinitis; a common chronic condition in children that causes substantial morbidity. Some of his write-ups and co-authored research works are published in the The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology as well as Journal of Asthma.

In 2000, Huang was recognized as among Castle Connolly's Top Doctors for Florida US. He is a Fellow (FAAAAI), American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
