Shelby E. L. Pruett is the founder of Equity Global Management, a private equity real estate investment firm that originates, structures, and invests in operationally significant net lease, sale leaseback and build-to-suit assets.

Early life and education

Pruett grew up in St. Louis, and graduated from John Burroughs High School in 1980. He attended the University of Virginia and graduated in 1984. He earned a graduate degree from Harvard University in 1987. Pruett is also the grandson of Hub Pruett, a Major League Baseball player from 1922 to 1932.

Career

Early in his career Pruett worked for Equity Assets Management (a Sam Zell related entity) providing investment management services for the Zell/Merrill Lynch Real Estate Opportunity Fund and other related funds. Pruett also worked for Transwestern Commercial Services where he ran corporate mergers and acquisitions. Pruett has co-founded Gryffindor Capital Partners, a venture capital firm investing in information technology, business services, and life sciences as well as Equity Capital Management, a private equity real estate firm focused on the net lease, sale leaseback, and build to suit real estate markets. Building on the success of Equity Capital management, Pruett founded Equity Global Management, a private equity real estate investment firm that originates, structures, and invests in operationally significant net lease, sale leaseback and build-to-suit assets. Pruett is a board member of the International Advisory Board of the Harvard Real Estate Academic Initiative. In addition, Pruett has maintained board of director involvement with Semafore Pharmaceuticals, SmartSignal, Corp., RealEnergy, Inc., QuickStudy Radiology, Inc., Orbit Commerce, Inc. and FreeDrive Inc.
