Shayne Workman (born December 5, 1978) is an American author, actor, theatre director and stage manager. His first work, ':A Journey to the Spirit Realm, was published in late autumn 2014. It was later added to his anthology, The Spirit Realm: An Anthology of Fables From The Spirit Realm. He has also penned, The Diary Of A Vagabond King, an inspiring true account of his personal experiences over the course of two years, where he was faced with impossible odds, and tragic losses. The royalties from the sale of the book will be going towards the creation and operation of the Blue Purity Fund created for aiding organizations with programs aimed at getting the nations homeless off the streets and back into being full members of society.

He is best known for his role Jess in the James Franco film, Child of God (2013), and as a Homestead Steel Worker in the History Channel's made-for-TV mini-series, The Men Who Built America (2012). He was also seen as the bartender in the film short, Fidelia (2012) and television commercials for East End Main Street HallowFest 3 and for Pancho's Southwest Grill in Barboursville, West Virginia. Workman has had experience in theater taking on various parts, working as a stage manager and directing stage productions during his time with the Kanawha Players in Charleston, West Virginia from 2009-2013.

Early life

Workman was born in Columbus, Ohio at Doctors Hospital-North, the son of Arliss Renee Workman (née Mullens) (d. 1990), a housewife and full-time dry cleaner, and Larry Workman, who was a carpenter. His mother was of the English, Irish and Native American Cherokee Native American descent. His great-grandfather Dennis (Standing Bear)(d.1964) on his mother's side was a full blooded Native American Cherokee and his great grandmother Mildred (d. 1985) was also part Cherokee.

Workman's family moved around a great deal during his childhood from different ends of town in and around Columbus, Ohio to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Daytona Beach, Florida, Knoxville, Tennessee and finally to Cabin Creek, West Virginia shortly after his mother's unexpected death in March 1990. Shayne's siblings include half-brother James (born 1970) and sister Angela Hart (born 1972). Workman was an avid member of the J.R.O.T.C and graduated from East Bank High School East Bank, West Virginia, home of the Pioneers in 1997.

Workman holds fast to the influences that helped to guide and shape him as a young man. Among those he credits are;

  • Personal life

    From 1997 to 2005, Workman dated make-up artist and hair stylist Ginger Basham. They were engaged in the Fall of 2004 and married the following year in October 2005. They divorced early Spring 2014.

    A lifelong Los Angeles Lakers fan, Workman lists Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Kobe Bryant as two of his favorite players. He also enjoys Football (Ravens), MMA fighting with Jon "Bones" Jones and Ronda Rousey, watching boxing greats Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson and old school wrestling with Bret "Hitman" Hart, The Rock and The Undertaker being among his all time favorites.

    Workman is single, living deep in the bayou down South and has a pit bull pup named Thorin.

    Charity work

    Workman worked to help build up the art community in Charleston, West Virginia.

    Hobbies

    Workman enjoys reading and has always been passionate about writing short stories, having since turned his hobby into a promising career with his first published works coming out in late 2014.

    Political views

    For a number of years, Workman has been a passionate advocate in the fight against breed-specific legislation and the discrimination of the pit-bull breed in the United States. Workman as been an avid supporter of the Movement to Support Common Sense Rape Survivor Rights started by Rise President & Founder, Amanda Nguyen. Workman has also been bringing much needed attention over the past couple of years to the 'Agenda based media coverage' in an effort to bring an end to the bias and misinformation being printed or shown on various news and social media outlets.
