History

Sharjah Indian School was established under Indian Association Sharjah, both founded by Mr V Damodar in 1979. The School started on 3rd September 1979 with 346 pupils from Nursery to 5th Standard and 13 teachers. It was expanded the very next year to 8th Standard and CBSE approval was obtained. The first batch of students appeared for CBSE examination when the School was just four years 'young' and obtained 100% success. Sharjah Indian School was the first of its kind and supported education of children of especially the middle class expatriates. The institution has been growing to become the largest School of its type outside India.

Academics

The school is approved and licensed by the private Education Department of the Ministry of Education, UAE and is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, India. The curriculum and programme of work is in accordance with the requirements of the Central Board of Secondary Education New Delhi, India.

The medium of Instruction in the school is English, with Hindi as a compulsory second language. Arabic is taught as per the rules laid down by the UAE Ministry of Education.

Aim of the institution

As per the Vision of the school i.e., "Educate Enlighten Empower", the aim of the school is to impart education, laying stress on the intellectual, physical, mental, social, aesthetic and moral development of the children. The school thus aims at making its own contribution towards establishing principles of social justice, equality of opportunity, genuine freedom, respect for religious and moral values enshrined in the constitution of India in conformity with the social standard of living and etiquette existing in the U.A.E. With this aim in view, the school gives adequate training for the students to become role models with innovative ideas and vision to work for the betterment of humanity. educate mor student with better equipments'.

Management

The school is owned and managed by the Indian Association Sharjah. The administration of the school is carried out by the Managing Committee, which is elected by the members of the Indian Association Sharjah. The tenure of the committee is one year.

Facilities

The school houses well-maintained Computer, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry and Psychology Labs. The students are often taken to the Labs. The school also has installed Smart Boards which enable the students to understand the concepts they are taught, especially for the higher classes. Hallways are monitored by CCTV Camera Systems at all times. The school also provides its students with a well-decked library. In 2014, the school decided to build a new complex for accommodating more students and the stone foundation was laid. By 2016, the new school is to be opened.
