Sharad Panday was a leading Indian heart surgeon. He performed the first ever heart transplant in India at the King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College KEM in Mumbai India. He was a specialist at bloodless heart surgery and one of the pioneers of it in India.

Career

Panday was also a professor and chief of the second unit at KEM Hospital. Panday has written paper on Clinical and diagnostic features of pulmonary valve endocarditis in the setting of congenital cardiac malformations in the International Journal of Cardiology and United States National Library of Medicine. Panday was elected President of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular-thoracic Surgeons on 15 June 1991. The following year the Fellowship of the Association (F.I.A.C.S) was instituted and regular biannual publication of the Journal(IJTCVS) commenced. Panday developed a surgical procedure called the Panday shunt named after him were from the right subclavian artery to left carotid artery for aortic arch replacement.

Personal life

Sharad Panday died on 8 November 2004. He was married to Snehlata Panday and the couple had two children.
