Shama Hyder was born in Goa, India in 1985. When she was 9 years old, she and her family emigrated to the United States, settling in Carrollton, Texas Hyder attended The University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a master's degree in organizational communication and technology in 2008.

As the founder and CEO of The Marketing Zen Group, Shama Hyder runs a digital marketing agency with an emphasis on social media marketing based in Dallas, TX. In 2009, the firm was launched with $1,500 and grew 400% in the first year alone. Shama directs the company's 30 full-time virtual team members, delivering social media and digital public relations services for clients that range from publicly held Fortune 1000 companies to privately held small businesses and non-profit organisations. The company serves clients worldwide, including companies in Europe, Asia and Central and South Americas.

Public Speaking

Hyder has presented keynotes and workshops internationally on social media, marketing, leadership, millennials, entrepreneurship, technology, and similar topics.

Hyder's list of speaking clients includes NASA, Bentley University, Hubspot, Siemens, Sysco, and other Fortune 500 companies. In July 2011, she was the only American female to be invited to the eleven member delegation of young American and Danish entrepreneurs who travelled to Cairo to share ideas with young Egyptian entrepreneurs on how to build a successful business. The trip was arranged by the Young Entrepreneur Council, in coordination with the United States State Department's new Global Entrepreneurship Program, USAID, the governments of Denmark and Egypt, and several other entrepreneurship organizations. The visiting entrepreneurs conducted a week-long startup company boot camp.

Hyder has her own columns on business and marketing with Forbes and Inc. She currently hosts Shama.TV, a web television show which covers new media technologies, trends, and marketing strategies. In 2016, the show won an Hermes Gold Award in the Educational Programming Category. In 2012, she hosted two weekly segments on the television station CW 33, KDAF-TV, in Dallas: Tech Zen with Shama, and Socially Sound with Shama.

Until 2014, Hyder was also the author of a weekly business advice column, "Ask Shama" on Portfolio.com.Portfolio.com. The Marketing Zen Group was listed on the Empact100 list of the top 100 companies in the US to be run by entrepreneurs under the age of 30., and Hyder was honoured as one of the Top 25 entrepreneurs who were under 25 years of age in North America by Business Week. Business Insider named her one of the ì20 Young Professionals to Watch in 2012. She is a recipient of the Technology Titan Emerging Company CEO award. In 2011, she was named one of four Super Sonic Youth by Entrepreneur Magazine, which called her a Zen master of marketing. She has been on the Dallas Business Journal's list of both 40 under 40 achievers and Top Women in Business. Shama has been dubbed The Queen of Social Media by Inc. and was named one of their Top 30 under 30 entrepreneurs in 2014. Shama was listed as a Mover and Shaker to the prestigious Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2015 under the marketing and advertising category. In 2016, ShamaTv won a Hermes Gold award for Educational Programming.
