The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has recently, successfully explored four oil fields in the Shakardara with production of 1,200 barrels per day (190 m3/d) of oil and around 5 million cubic feet (140,000 m3) of gas.

Climate
The climate of Shakardara is very hot during summer and cold during winter with the hottest months being May, June, July and August. In summer, the temperature may exceed above 40 degree Celsius but the weather changes from October through February. The winter season is, however, very pleasant and frigid. Monsoon rains are received from May to October with August being the rainiest month. The winter rains occur from November to April.
Languages
Pashto is the common language which is locally understood and spoken. Urdu being the national language is also understood. The most notable tribe is Khattak with further sub tribes as , Saghri Khattak, Bangi-khel Khattak and Buraq Khattak.
