Yun Seok Cheol (Hangul: 윤석철; born April 10, 1985) is a Jazz Pianist and Composer from South Korea. He won first place at the Ulsan Jazz Festival in 2005 and won third place at the Jarasum International Jazz Festival competition in 2008. Beyond their award records, Yun appeared in various radio and television programs in South Korea: You Hee-yeol's Sketchbook, Sunny's FM Date, and EBS Space Gonggam.

Background

Yun Seok Cheol was born in Seoul, South Korea. He attended Daejin high school and JEI University in the Jazz Music Department.

Career

He broke onto Korean Jazz scene by sweeping domestic jazz competitions in South Korea. He made his musical debut in 2004, playing at Club Evans, located in Hongdae, Seoul. Yun hosted the club for several years. Yun's first album, "Growth" was released as a trio in December 2008.

The Yun Seok Cheol Trio (SC Yun's Trio) consists of bassist Jung Sang Yi, drummer Kim Yong Jin, and Yun Seok Cheol himself. All of the team members are known to be one of the most talented people in their field. Their first album "Growth", released on December 2009, was created with a different member assemble. Current members created the rest of albums so far.

Yun Seok Cheol has been establishing himself as an artist in K-pop scene as well by performing and collaborating with a lot of K-pop albums qua their piano session and composing songs. He became famous by cross over with many Korean singers: Zion.T, Beenzino, and Jang Hye-jin. He composed a song, "그냥(just)" by Crush (singer) and is recognized as an expert in his field.

He was a lecturer at Dongduk Women's University in Practical Music Department and JEI University in Jazz Music Department previously; now he is doing a lecture at Kukje International College of Arts in Seoul, South Korea.

Fusion with jazz and the idea from Hip-hop and electronic music become SC Yun's unique style.
