Educational & Academic Focuses

Senate House is an education centre and advisory chambers offer a range of gifted programme, enrichment training, career insight programme, accelerated language training, school and university admissions consulting, as well as academic summer exchange tours exclusively to colleges and departments within Oxford University, Cambridge University and other top academic institutions. All of the programme focus on intellectual and academic development with multi-dimensional thinking skills as their emphasis.

Education Centre & Advisory Chambers

Senate House opened its first learning centre in Lee Garden in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, in 2009. The programme and training aim at engaging students intellectually outside the constraints of their mainstream education. The centre’s number of students rapidly grew, with collaborations with a variety of local and international institutions on a regular and seasonal basis. Its students come from a variety of top schools, such as Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education, Diocesan Girls’ School, St. Paul's Convent School, La Salle College, West Island School, Victoria Shanghai Academy, Singapore International School, Independent School Foundation, French International School, Island School, Hong Kong International School, Yew Chung International School, St. Stephen Girls’ School, St. Paul’s Co-educational College, St. Joseph College, Diocesan Boys’ School, Queen’s College, Bellilios Public School, etc.

It is also reported widely on the media that, under the training and guidance of the centre's admission coaching and advisory team, students of the centre have received admission offers from universities such as Cambridge University, Oxford University, Imperial College, London School of Economics, Hong Kong University, Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. The centre also runs a Young Banker's Programme that students of Senate House Hong Kong have received academic awards, distinguished scholarships and admission offers from universities such as Cambridge University, Oxford University, Imperial College London, University College London, Durham University, London School of Economics, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, Princeton University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, etc.

The centre also runs a programme called Young Banker Programme every summer in Hong Kong for a selected group of highly talented and motivated students to attend a work shadow and competition at a global investment bank. In 2010, the centre collaborated with UBS to co-host the programme at UBS’s Asian Headquarter in Hong Kong. In 2011, the centre collaborated with Credit Suisse, and subsequently with Barclays and Standard Chartered.

Senate House runs two UK-based advisory chambers in Oxford and Cambridge, to offer prospective applicants to the two universities admission consulting services, and to operate its collaborative projects, such as the academic exchange tours and other academic and research collaborations, at the two universities.

In early 2013, Senate House has established a sister brand, Upper House Academy, in Macau to operate a new branch in the heart of the city, with a mission to enhance general quality of education, and support local students’ academic development and admission results.

Senate House has been criticised for the low quality of much of the material it produces for teaching of the English Language, which is often written by non native speakers of English, is riddled with errors and/or anomalies and bares little or no cultural benefit for students. These courses are not endorsed by prestigious universities in the United Kingdom, despite promotional materials suggesting otherwise.

Academic Team

The academic team is led primarily by Dr. Wing Lau, and other esteemed educators and scholars from distinguished universities.
