Scotty Balan (born May 29, 1982 in Medicine Hat, Alberta) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who currently plays for the Tilburg Trappers of the Eredivisie. Balan was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 4th round, 106th overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Career

He began his pro career in 2002-03 with the Roanoke Express of the [ECHL]. He played 38 games during the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League.

Balan also played in the ECHL for the Florence Pride during 2003-04 and the Greenville Grrrowl during 2004-05. He was tied for second among Greenville defencemen with +10 rating. He was a +5 on Jan. 28, 2005 in a game against the Texas Wildcatters. From 2005-09, he played for the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL.

He is ranked second among Condors defencemen with career high 26 assists and 29 points. He had five points, 2 goals and 3 assists in 14 playoff games. Balan had 47 points, 7 goals and 40 assists, with 357 penalty minutes in four-plus years of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League.
