Background

Scotland Loves Animation is a registered Scottish charity for the promotion of animation - screening premieres, classics and hosting talks, education days and more.

Established in 2010, Scotland Loves Animation promotes animation worldwide with a core selection of events running in October each year. Based across three of Scotland’s cultural hubs: Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dundee, Scotland Loves Animation offers premiere screenings, exhibitions, workshops and international guests.

The focus of 2010 was on Japanese animation, with a double-screening of Evangelion 1.0 and Evangelion 2.0 (the UK premiere was in Glasgow the previous year 2009), as well as a full festival called Scotland Loves Anime in October 2010.

Scotland Loves Animation offers a platform for recent graduates, and will run an educational programme geared towards inspiring, improving, and celebrating graduates’ works. This year’s guests included Jonathan Clements, Oscar Wright and Nik Taylor. This is achieved through an Education Day that run as part of the festival whereby top industry professionals are invited to meet student in a full day of talks, panel discussions, and workshops.

Event dates, locations and venues

In October 2010, Scotland Loves Animation created several events celebrating Japanese animation under the umbrella name of "Scotland Loves Anime" and ran them in the Glasgow Film Theatre in Glasgow and the Edinburgh Filmhouse in Edinburgh. The festival will be run again in October 2011. During the rest of the year they collaborate with other events, including the Glasgow Film Festival and the Glasgow Youth Film Festival, to program animated content.

We Love Anime and other events

In 2011, Scotland Loves Animation announced another project called "We Love Anime" that will tour Anime content across the UK and Ireland. It is scheduled to begin on March 26, 2011 and end in July 2011. Locations include: Edinburgh, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Dumfries, Dublin, Bexley and London.

Films in its line-up for 2011 include: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Summer Wars, Redline, King of Thorn and Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
