History

Scoil Uí Chonaill CLG was founded in 1950 by Brother Jim Scully, Principal of O’Connell School, initially to provide Gaelic games for pupils and past pupils of O’Connell School.

The Club maintains strong ties with O’Connell Primary and Secondary schools.

Proud of its history, and while membership has grown and is drawn from a wider base including local schools such as Scoil Neasáin, Scoil Uí Chonaill is committed to maintaining, developing and investing in, its strong links and association with the north inner city.

Club Ethos

Scoil Uí Chonaill currently, in partnership with the Dublin County Board, employs a full-time Games Promotion Officer (GPO) who, with the support of volunteers from the club, works to support the development of Gaelic games in O'Connell School, as well as five other north inner city DEIS schools.

Scoil Uí Chonaill epitomises a family club which retains members regardless of their address. The club has established itself as one with an ingrained culture of welcoming all new members, young and old, with a large number of adult players originating from counties outside of Dublin.

Scoil Uí Chonaill recognises that youth is its future and places enormous emphasis on developing younger members, starting with Nursery games which take place every Saturday morning from 10am to 11.30am in the club grounds. Underage teams compete from Under-8 to Under-16 (boys) and Under-10 to Under-16 (girls), after which they graduate to Minor (U-18) level. Click here to learn more.

Although its ethos is around Gaelic Football and Hurling, the Club has developed into a wonderful social outlet to which it welcomes any prospective members. It also plays its part in supporting the wider community with events and fund raisers for a number of charities and special activities.

Mission Statement

"Our mission and commitment at Scoil Uí Chonaill is to continue our proud line of tradition and always strive for competitive success. Just as importantly, we endeavour to support each member, playing or not, with the commitment and loyalty that is so often displayed on the pitch."

Achievements & Facilities

Scoil Uí Chonaill CLG, a family-run club, proudly boasts two Dublin Senior Championships, among numerous other League and Championship titles. Based at 95 Clontarf Road, it enjoys the benefit of large, enclosed private grounds with a fully equipped clubhouse and changing facilities for both men and women, as well as a player’s gym and hurling wall.

The last 5 years has seen its facilities transform with the addition of redeveloped unisex changing facilities, fully equipped club gym and hurling wall. This has helped both men’s teams earn six promotions, including 2 league titles, which is testament to the Club's ambition and effort. There are three Adult Men's teams which play football in AFL2, AFL7 and AFL11. Adult Hurlers play in AHL3 and AHL9 while the Adult Ladies team plays in AFL5, Championships and Cups. The Adult teams also play in hurling and football Championships and Cups organised by the County Board.
