Phil Diamond began Scammers in 2010 while living at the Pistol Social Club in Kansas City, Missouri. His songwriting has been compared to that of Leonard Cohen, Scott Walker, and Nick Cave.

In 2013, Scammers released "Philipglasscandy," the first in a series of releases in the style of John Oswald's Plunderphonics. This series later included 2014's "Songs of Suspicious Origin," and 2016's "Deathly Hollow."
