Satyawati College is a university college in Delhi, India, affiliated to the University of Delhi. It offers both morning and evening classes to a student base of almost 2,000, with a permanent teaching staff of around 150.

History

The college was established in 1972 by the Government of Delhi , while "Evening college" was established in 1973. It is one of the constituent colleges of Delhi University that lies in North campus, in Phase-3, Ashok Vihar, Delhi. The College is named after a great freedom fighter, Behen (Sister) Satyawati, grand-daughter of Swami Shraddhanand, who worked in close association with leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Jayaprakash Narayan and Sarojini Naidu. She worked tirelessly till her death for uprooting poverty, ignorance and communalism. She was named Toofani Behen (Stormy Sister) by Mahatma Gandhi for her zeal and commitment.

Programmes

It offers degrees in Commerce, Economics, English, Hindi, History, Mathematics, Political Science, Sanskrit, and Urdu. Economics and Commerce are the two most popularly subscribed courses.

Elections and Students Union

Active participation in DUSU Elections is taken. Several Delhi University Presidents and eminent posts in Delhi University Students Union were from Satyawati College.

Campus

The college has a sprawling campus spread over an area of 10 acres. It is a co-educational institution and attracts students from all strata of the society. The College is proud to have the magnificent, state of the art 'Satya Auditorium', one of the best in the University of Delhi. In order to help the students to excel their sports capabilities, College has a full-fledged Sports Department situated in a separate block. It also takes care of the special training needs of the persons with disabilities, specially Visually Challenged Candidates. The College has a modern well-equipped Seminar Room, Computer Laboratory and a fully computerized and air-conditioned Dr. Haldar Memorial Library which has rich collections of books and periodicals.
