Sardar Muhammad Arif Nakai ( Nakai سردار محمد عارف) belonged to a noble family of Nakai Misl, one of the 12 Misls of Sikh Confederacy. He was a Pakistani Muslim Jatt politician and had been part of the country's political landscape for well over forty years. He was the Chief Minister of Pakistan's most populous province from September 13, 1995 to November 3, 1996. He was elected Member of Punjab Assembly for four consecutive terms during 1985-88, 1988–90, 1990–93 and 1993–96; and also functioned as Minister for Revenue, Minister for Forests, Minister for Livestock & Dairy Development Department, Minister for Industries and Mineral Development and as Chief Minister of Punjab during 1995-96.

There had been a tug of war between Sardar Arif Nakai of Wan Adhan, tehsil Pattoki and Rana Phool Muhammad Khan of Bahi Pheru. Arif Nakai's nephew and son-in-law is famous politician Sardar Talib Hasan Nakai. His sons are Sardar Muhammad Asif Nakai ( Former Minister of State), (Late) Sardar Pervaiz Hasan Nakai and Sardar Atif Nakai, former Tehsil Nazim of Pattoki Tehsil.
Sardar Arif Nakai died on 29-02-2000 and was buried in his home village Wan Adhan.

Misl Nakai
Nakai Misl was founded by Hira Singh, a Sandhu Jatt of the village of Baherval in Chunian Tehsil of Lahore district. His village fell in the country called "Nakka" which lay south-west of Lahore between the rivers Ravi and Sutlej. It was through this region that the highway from Lahore to Multan, Balochistan and Sindh passed imparting to it the name Nakka ("nakka", in Punjabi, signifying a kind of gateway). Hira Singh had taken to arms while still very young. As the Sikhs sacked Kasur in 1763 and conquered Sirhind in 1764, Hira Singh occupied Baherval, Chunian, Dipalpur, Jambar, Jethupur, Kanganpur and Khudian establishing his headquarters at Chunian. In 1767, he led out an expedition to Pak Pattan, but was killed in the action that took place. His son Dal Singh being a minor, he was succeeded by his nephew Nahar Singh who had but a tenure of nine months falling in a battle at Kot Kamalia in 1768. His younger brother Ran Singh, who succeeded him, considerably increased the power and influence of the Nakais. The territory under his control was worth nine lakhs of rupees per annum and comprised Chunian, part of Kasur, Sharakpur, Cugera and, at one time, Kot Kamalia. Ran Singh had a force of 2,000 horsemen, with camel swivels and a few guns. His headquarters were at Baherval in Lahore district.
Ran Singh died in 1781 and was succeeded by his eldest son Bhagwan Singh, whose sister, Raj Kaur, was married to Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Bhagwan Singh was succeeded by his younger brother, Gian Singh, who died in 1807 leaving a son, Kahn Singh. In 1810, Maharaja Ranjit Singh granted Kahn Singh a jagir of 15,000 rupees per annum and seized all the possessions of the family.
Nakai became a prominent last name among several families. A former Chief minister of Pakistan, Sardar Muhammad Arif Nakai's grandfather, Sardar Ishar Singh Nakai was born as a Sikh but converted to Islam.

[3] Sardar Arif Nakai's third son, Sardar Atif Nakai, was Tehsil Nazim for Pattoki in 2002 to 2007.
