Salwan is a village of high historical interest in Karnal District, Haryana, India. It contains a tirtha identified as having national importance. The major population of the area are Raghav(clan) from Suryavanshi Rajput caste.The Rajputs are a martial race and caste of the Indian subcontinent. The village was the subject of much media attention in 2007, when the beating death of a Rajput man was followed by a wave of violence directed toward local dalits. About 150 lower-caste families fled the village.
