Geography
Salkhit is placed on Kharaa gol river (a right tributary of the Orkhon river), 13 km South from Khongor sum center and 33 km South from the aimag capital Darkhan.
Economy
Salkhit is the railway station where the 164 km long line Salkhit - Erdenet starts. This line was built in 1975 with the Soviet assistance to the copper producing city of Erdenet.
Clean Energy, a unit of Newcom Group built the US$122 million "Salkhit Wind Farm" in the region using GE wind turbines.
Prehistory
An archaic Homo sapiens skull with features similar to Homo erectus with an estimated dating between the beginning of the Middle Pleistocene and the end of the Late Pleistocene was found near Salkhit.
