Life's too short for round pancakes

Saipancakes is a blog that publishes pictures of, and instructions to make, whimsical artistic pancakes. The website was created by former high school math teacher Nathan Shields.

Contents

Pancakes created by shield are often published in thematic groups. For example, there might be a group of trucks and machines that includes ambulances, tractors, excavators, bulldozers, firetrucks, etc., or animals that includes tigers, rhinos, monkeys, giraffes, zebras, elephants, etc.

About Nathan Shields

Saipancakes were created by a former teacher Nathan Shields, who taught mathematics at the Fort Vancouver High School for about six years in Vancouver, Washington. After those six years of work, Shields decided to be a stay-at-home dad. As a stay at home father, Shields used his illustration art skills to turn breakfast pancakes into an educational activity for his children. When the family went to Saipan for a trip, he made animal shaped pancakes for his children, which he called "Saipancakes".

Tools

According to Shield, he used this equipment to make his pancakes:

  • 12-oz wide mouth squeeze bottles.
  • extra-wide spatula
  • 12.75-inch nonstick pan from Scanpan
  • Infrared thermometer (to ensure that he is cooking the pancakes at 460 °F)
