Sainthia (Vidhan Sabha constituency)

Sainthia (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is an assembly constituency in Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The seat is reserved for scheduled castes. Mahammad Bazar (Vidhan Sabha constituency) ceases to be an assembly constituency from 2011. Sainthia (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is a newly constituted constituency.

Overview

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 289 Sainthia (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (SC) is composed of the following: Sainthia municipality, Banagram, Deriapur, Fulur, Horisara, Hatora and Mathpalsa gram panchayats of Sainthia community development block, Angargaria, Bhutura, Charicha, Mahamad Bazar, Deucha and Puranagram gram panchayats of Mahammad Bazar community development block, and Suri II community development block.

Sainthia (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (SC) is part of No. 42 Birbhum (Lok Sabha constituency).

2011

In the 2001 elections, Dhiren Bagdi of CPI(M) defeated his nearest rival Parikshit Bala of Trinamool Congress.
