Sahaspur is a town and a nagar panchayat in Bijnor district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Geography

Sahaspur is located at 29.121°N 78.621°E / 29.121; 78.621. It has an average elevation of 199 metres (653 feet).

The Nagar Panchyata is located between Seohara and Kaanth. Sahaspur was the largest Zamindari in Moradabad and Badaun districts of Uttar Pradesh. An ancestor, Prithvi Singh, went along with the Lodi kings when they were at Sambhal, Moradabad district, and after their defeat in 1526 at Panipat, by the Moghul Emperor, Babur, they settled quietly in Punjab. They kept in touch with Badaun and Katehr (old name of Moradabad) and at the insistence of Rao Pahar Singh Gaur, a relative, came back at the end of Aurangzeb's reign to receive the title of 'Rai' and were made 'Chakladars' of Bijnor District in 1713.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Sahaspur had a population of 22,604. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Sahaspur has an average literacy rate of 39%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 44%, and female literacy is 33%. In Sahaspur, 21% of the population is under 6 years of age. Many people go to Delhi and Saudi Arabia for work because they have no work in Sahaspur because of shorting of Electricity.
