Company overview

Among basic conditions, Friedrich Schunk founded his "mechanical workshop" in a garage in Lauffen/Neckar, Germany in 1945. The production of brake drums and fly wheels for the NSU Prince 4 and precision parts for the Porsche 356 were his first larger orders. In 1964 the current owner and CEO Heinz-Dieter Schunk joined the company.

In 1992 SCHUNK founded the subsidiary SCHUNK Inc. in Raleigh, North Carolina, in response to the expanding export to North America.

The US subsidiary, SCHUNK Inc., is next to the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) and close to the Research Triangle Park. The High-Tech Triangle area between Raleigh and Durham, with its three well-known Universities Duke, UNC and NC State is considered to be the high-tech center of the rapidly growing southeastern region of the USA.

The company's on-site US-manufacturing capabilities allow SCHUNK Inc to exploit the North American market. With a nationwide network of regional sales managers for Automation and Tooling and Workholding, SCHUNK customers, have access to local SCHUNK technical support representatives.
