São Tomé and Príncipe competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's sixth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics.

Contents

Three athletes from São Tomé and Princípe were selected for the Games, competing only in both track and field and sprint canoeing. Among them were distance runners Romário Leitão and Celma Bonfim da Graça, the lone female of the roster and returning Olympian from Beijing 2008, and flatwater canoeist Buly Triste, who created history as the nation's first ever male athlete to carry the São Tomé and Princípe flag at the opening ceremony. São Tomé and Princípe, however, has yet to win its first Olympic medal, as neither of the athletes progressed beyond the first round of their respective sporting events.

Athletics

São Tomé and Príncipe has received universality slots from IAAF to send two athletes (one male and one female) to the Olympics.
