On December 31, 2012 Miyazaki defeated former WBA strawweight champion Pornsawan Porpramook by split decision (116-111, 116-112, and 113-114).
After successfully defending the title twice against Carlos Velarde and Jesús Silvestre, he would vacate the title to move up to the Light Flyweight division.
