Career

Houck graduated with a bachelor's degree in political science from Rollins College, in Winter Park, Florida.

Between March and September 2005, Ryan Houck served as a congressional staffer for Republican Senator Mel Martínez of Florida. In 2008, Houck became the executive director of Floridians for Smarter Growth. Through his company, Consensus Communications, Houck creates political campaign material.

Houck has written for conservative national news outlets, including The Daily Caller and Townhall.com.

In 2010, Houck led the lead opposition group to an initiative in Florida backed by environmentalists called "Hometown Democracy", arguing that it amounted to public funding of an abuse of the state's legal system. He went on to become the executive director of a campaigning organization called Free Market Florida.

On Earth Day, 2012, with the support of Americans for Limited Government, Houck's group launched Free Market America, with the release of a video called "If I wanted America to fail." The video, which was written and narrated by Houck, was heavily critical of environmentalism and quickly went viral, earning more than 2.6 million views on YouTube. Conservative pundits including Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, and others celebrated the video and Houck appeared on national news shows, such as Stossel and Glenn Beck. Also in 2012, Houck was named one of Orlando's "40 Under 40."

In 2014, Houck published a book on generational politics with Post Hill Press, called Will America Fail? The book ranked among Amazon’s top National Politics, Elections and Commentary titles.
