Career

Raised in Daventry, Northamptonshire, Haynes was spotted by Coventry City at a youth tournament in Rugby, Warwickshire. With senior left-backs at the club unavailable through injury and suspension, Haynes made his professional debut on 6 April 2013 in a 1–1 League One playing the whole game of a draw with Brentford. Haynes marked his debut by vomiting on the pitch due to nerves. During the 2013/14 season he made two further appearances for Coventry City, starting in a 1–1 draw with Shrewsbury Town and as a late substitute in a 2–2 draw with Crawley Town.

After spending a season with Coventry City's under-21 side, Haynes became regarded as one of the brightest prospects at the club and had been scouted by several Premier League sides. An injury to Danny Pugh during a League Cup tie against Cardiff City in August 2014 allowed Haynes his chance to break into the first-team. Despite scoring an own-goal in the second half of the Cardiff City fixture, Haynes recovered well and assisted Shaun Miller for Coventry City's only goal in a 2–1 defeat.
Since then Haynes has been a regular in the Coventry City first-team. The youngster produced an assist for Jim O'Brien in a 1–0 win over Sheffield United at Sixfields. He later won man of the match against Gillingham in Coventry City's return match at the Ricoh Arena, he broke free down the left-wing and cut the ball back for Frank Nouble in the 10th minute for the game's only goal. He scored his first goal for Coventry in a 3-2 win over Peterborough United on 25 October 2014.

On 13 February 2016, Haynes joined Cambridge United on loan for the remainder of the 2015–16 season.

He scored his second goal for Coventry in a 3-2 EFL Cup win against Portsmouth on 9 August 2016. He scored a brace in an EFL Trophy tie against Wycombe Wanderers on 9 November 2016.
