Rupert Scholz (born 23 May 1937 in Berlin) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union.

Career

Scholz was a law professor before assuming ministerial role. He was the federal minister of defence from 1988 to 1989 in the cabinet led by the then prime minister Helmut Kohl. Gerhard Stoltenberg succeeded him in the post in the cabinet reshuffle. Scholz also served as Berlin senator.

In 2007, Scholz stated that Germany should strive to become a nuclear power.
