Description

The piece is written in 2/4 and has the tempo marking Presto agitato, con ritmo (=108)

Musical Analysis

The piece starts with a fast, repeated note on G. The theme is then introduced in the left hand which plays between the right-hand's notes and this is played twice with minor variations the second time. This is then followed by the same tune in the left-hand but the Gs in the right-hand are placed in octaves. The Gs then return to the same note and the left hand plays semi-tones above and below the right. The main theme is then reintroduced and this is followed by alternating ascending scales in C and D (or C#). The piece then concludes with an intricate, descending pattern to a final C major chord.

Set examination

This piece was on the 2007-2008, Grade 6 Piano syllabus of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and on the 2008, Grade 4 Piano syllabus of the UNISA Directorate of Music Examination
