Problem

61 million children around the world will not have the opportunity to go to school and learn (girls comprise over half of this staggering figure).

In Nepal they are either forced to work in the fields or spend their remaining days working in their family home or the home of their husbands. These are young teenage girls we are talking about. If not early marriage, these girls face other potential dangers such as human trafficking or working abroad as house maids.

An estimated 200,000 Nepali women have left their homeland in search of work in other countries, such as neighboring India. However, when these young women reach their destinations, the world is seldom as kind as they have hoped for. Working as maids in foreign countries, they face the dangers of extortion, and both physical and sexual abuse.

Program

The Rukmini Foundation uses donations to fund school tuition, supplies, routine health check-ups and mentoring/tutoring services for underprivileged teenage girls living in Nepal.
