The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ende (Latin: Endehen(us)) is a Latin Metropolitan archdiocese in the Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia.

Its cathedral episcopal see is Gereja Katedral Kristus Raja (dedicated to Christ the King), in the city of Ende, in Nusa Tenggara Timur.

History

  • Established on September 16, 1913 as Apostolic Prefecture of Lesser Sunda Islands (curiate Italian: Isole della Piccola Sonda), on territory split off from the then Apostolic Vicariate of Batavia (now Archdiocese of Jakarata, then covering the Dutch East Indies)
  • Promoted on March 12, 1922 as Apostolic Vicariate of Lesser Sunda Islands (curiate Italian: Isole della Piccola Sonda), hence entitled to a titular bishop
  • Lost territories, first on 25 february 1936 to establish the Apostolic Vicariate of Dutch Timor and again on 10 July 1950 to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Denpasar
  • Renamed on March 8, 1951 as Apostolic Vicariate of Endeh, after its see, having lost territories to establish the Apostolic Vicariate of Larantuka and the Apostolic Vicariate of Ruteng
  • Lost territory on 20 October 1959 to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Weetebula
  • Promoted on January 3, 1961 as Metropolitan Archdiocese of Endeh
  • Renamed on May 14, 1974 as Metropolitan Archdiocese of Ende
  • Lost territory on 14 December 2005 to establish the diocese of Maumere.
