Rohan Narayana Murty (Kannada:ರೋಹನ್ ಮೂರ್ತಿ, he spells his last name differently from his father) is the son of Indian IT industrialist N. R. Narayana Murthy and the co-founder of Infosys . In June 2013, Rohan was appointed as an executive assistant at the Chairman's Office reporting to Narayana Murthy at Infosys, when Narayana Murthy returned to Infosys. His appointment as Vice President at Infosys was subjected to approval by the Minitsry of Corporate Affairs, India. Rohan left company on June 14, 2014 when his father stepped down as Executive Chairman.

Before joining Infosys, Murty earned a PhD in computer science from Harvard University. His PhD was supported by a Siebel Scholars Fellowship and a Microsoft Research Fellowship. Prior to his PhD Rohan Murty studied computer science at Cornell University. Although he does not read Sanskrit, as a PhD student, he took a class focussing on Kumarila Bhatta’s Shlokavartika which got him interested in ancient Indian Philosophy and sciences.

He is said to have owned Infosys shares worth $347 million on June 1, 2013.
He is the founder of the Murty Classical Library of India, which is a continuation of the Clay Sanskrit Library Project headed by Sheldon Pollock. He recently rejected a petition asking that Sheldon Pollock be removed from the position of the chief editor of the Murty Classical Library.

Personal life

He grew up with a deep passion for programming since his childhood. He studied at the Bishop Cotton Boys' School for fourteen years, from pre-school to high school.

Shrinivas Kulkarni, a professor of astrophysics and planetary science at California Institute of Technology is his maternal uncle. He is said to have been a major influence on Rohan.

He did his undergraduate studies in Computer Science at Cornell University. He obtained a PhD in computer engineering at Harvard in 2011 where he worked on Opportunistic Wireless Networks, which work by continually seeking and using underused portions of spectrum currently, and vacating them if any incumbent returns.
He is currently on leave from being a junior fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows. he is associated with Catamaran Ventures, a $127-million venture capital fund headed by N.R.N. Murthy.
Murthy was married to Lakshmi Venu (Srinivasan), daughter of the TVS Motors chairman, Venu Srinivasan, who had studied at Yale. in June 2011. She was then the vice-president in charge of global business strategy at Sundaram-Clayton (holding company of TVS Motors). She was elevated to Joint Managing Director of Sundaram-Clayton in 2014. They separated in 2013 and were granted divorce in October 2015.
