He started his career working in London doing commercials and TV Idents in the mid-80s. Following a move to the USA in 1993 he began working on various film projects. He initially worked at Pacific Data Images (PDI) before moving in 1995 to Industrial Light + Magic - one of the longest standing and most successful Visual Effects Companies in the world.
He has been nominated for 4 Oscars: he was also nominated for Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Trek and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He has won 2 British Academy awards and been nominated a further 4 times.
