Rocket Software

History

Rocket Software was founded in Boston in 1990 with a focus on IBM DB2 tools. Rocket's products are in the analytics, data, storage, applications and networks areas, and run on platforms including mainframe, Linux/Unix/Windows, IBM i, public and private cloud, and hybrid/virtualized systems.

Rocket software runs on IBM System z, IBM System i, UNIX, Windows and other platforms and offers tools to access non-SQL data with standard SQL queries.

In 2013, Rocket was named to Database Trends and Applications magazine's inaugural “DBTA 100,” a list of the companies that matter most in data. In 2012, Rocket's Aldon subsidiary was recognized as a Niche Player in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for application life-cycle management and as a Contender in The Forrester Wave: application life-cycle management, Q4 2012. In 2009, Aldon was positioned as a visionary in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for software change and configuration management for distributed platforms.

Products

Rocket develops and sells over 100 individual software applications, grouped into 20 product lines. Many have been added to Rocket's portfolio through acquisitions.

Rocket Aldon

Acquired from Marlin Equity Partners in 2011, the Aldon group develops software change management products for the enterprise application lifecycle management (ALM) and software change management (SCM) markets. The suite of products includes Aldon Lifecycle Manager, Aldon Deployment Manager, Aldon Community Manager, and Aldon CMDB.

Rocket Arkivio

The Arkivio line of data archive and backup products includes Arkivio Autoexplore, Arkivio Autostor, and Arkivio Automigrate. Arkivio was acquired by Rocket in 2008.

Rocket AS

Rocket AS provides data visualization and application development tools for System z data, including IBM DB2. Products in the AS line include Rocket Ascent and Rocket ICE. The AS products were acquired from Astrac in 2005.

Rocket Bluezone

Rocket Bluezone provides terminal emulation tools for access to multiple platforms, including IBM Mainframe (TN3270), i Series (TN5250), UNIX, DEC (VT), Unisys (T27 & UTS) and secure File Transfer Protocol (FTP) systems. Rocket acquired the Bluezone product line in 2007 as part of the Seagull Software purchase.

Rocket CorVu

The Rocket CorVu product line includes tools for business intelligence and enterprise performance management (EPM). This includes Rocket CorVu NG, a data visualization tool for software developers, and Rocket HyperVU, an EPM tool that can be used to distribute dashboards, reports and graphics via Web browser. Rocket acquired CorVu in 2007.

Rocket D3

Rocket D3 is a MultiValue database management system (DBMS) based on the Pick universal data model. Tools included with the system include Rocket FlashConnect, Rocket D3 OpenDB, Rocket MVS Toolkit, Rocket D3 ODBC Server, Rocket D3 Java API, Rocket D3 .NET API, Rocket D3 Oracle Gateway and Rocket D3 MQSeries Server. Rocket acquired the D3 products in 2013 when it purchased TigerLogic's MultiValue business unit.

Rocket Data

The Rocket Data line includes tools that let developers use and manipulate data resident on IBM System z mainframes. These tools include Rocket Data IDMS Extensions, Rocket Data z/ClientBuilder, Rocket Data z/Presentation, Rocket Data z/Services, Rocket Data z/Events, Rocket Data z/Direct, Rocket Data Virtualization, Rocket Data z/Web Server and Rocket Data Integration Tools.

Rocket Folio

The Rocket Folio product lines focuses on data search, retrieval and publishing. Rocket Folio Views is a Windows-based information retrieval application for offline search of format-free data. Rocket Folio Builder is an information conversion and distribution tool, and Rocket Folio Publisher allows commercial publishers who sell their information electronically to package the Folio Views client software with their information, and provides a license for redistribution. The Folio products were acquired from Microsoft in 2009.

Rocket iCluster

Rocket iCluster is a high availability and disaster recovery solution for business applications operating on IBM POWER or PureFlex systems running IBM i. iCluster enables continual access through monitoring, notifying and self-correcting replication issues. Rocket purchased the iCluster business from IBM in 2012.

Rocket LegaSuite

The Rocket LegaSuite line provides software that allows developers to create Web and mobile applications using data from IBM i, mainframe and UNIX applications, as well as other enterprise systems. Tools include Rocket LegaSuite GUI, Rocket LegaSuite Mobile, Rocket LegaSuite Integration, Rocket LegaSuite Web, and Rocket LegaSuite Text Translation. Rocket acquired the LegaSuite products as part of the 2007 Seagull Software purchase.

Rocket Mainstar

Rocket Mainstar products are built for IBM System z mainframes. The Mainstar line includes tools for catalog and system management, local and disaster recovery, hierarchical storage management (HSM), and Linux on System z. Rocket acquired Mainstar Software Corporation in 2006.

Rocket Model 204

Model 204 (M204) is a database management system for IBM and compatible mainframe computers. It incorporates a programming language and an environment for application development. Implemented in assembly language for IBM System/360 and its successors, M204 can deal with very large databases and transaction loads of 1000 TPS. Rocket acquired M204 in 2010 as part of the Computer Corporation of America purchase.

Rocket NXT

Rocket NXT is an electronic publishing suite for storing, assembling, securing and distributing content online, by CD or DVD, on mobile devices or within corporate intranets. Products include Rocket NXT Enterprise Server and Rocket NXT Professional Publishing Server. The NXT products were acquired from Microsoft in 2009.

Rocket Passport

Rocket Passport is a 3270 terminal emulator for IBM host access. It includes TN3270E emulation and basic TN3270 emulation, as well as IBM i (TN5250), UNIX/DEC (VT), and secure File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Rocket acquired Passport in 2012 when it purchased Zephyr Development Corporation.

Rocket R/Link

Rocket R/Link is a secure online file sharing and managed file transfer tool that resides on a corporate network or private cloud. It supports FTP, SFTP, FTPS and HTTPS protocols and offers AES, PGP and SSL-based encryption.

Rocket Servergraph

Rocket Servergraph is a reporting tool for data backup environments. It is compatible with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, NetBackup, Avamar, FastBack, NetWorker and Data Domain, ProtecTIER, Hitachi Sepaton, Veeam, IBM Flashcopy Manager for Unix, Oracle RMAN, Commvault, Rocket iCluster, and Symantec Backup Exec. Rocket purchased Servergraph in 2005.

Rocket Trubiquity

The Trubiquity group develops software for project collaboration, electronic data interchange (EDI), managed file transfer (MFT), enterprise application integration (EAI), and process automation. Individual applications include Rocket TRUCentrix, Rocket TRUexchange, Rocket TRUfusion Enterprise, Rocket TRUedx, Rocket TRUeurex-c, and Rocket TRUsource. Rocket acquired Trubiquity in 2014.

Rocket U2

Rocket U2 is a suite of database management (DBMS) and supporting software. It includes two MultiValue database platforms: UniData and UniVerse. Both of these products are operating environments which run on current Unix, Linux and Windows operating systems. The family also includes developer and web-enabling technologies including SystemBuilder/SB+, SB/XA, U2 Web Development Environment (WebDE), UniObjects and wIntegrate. Rocket acquired the U2 business from IBM in 2009.
