The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a primary commercial service airport (more than 10,000 enplanements per year).

In the year ending December 30, 2010 the airport had 14,075 aircraft operations, average 38 per day: 85% general aviation, 15% air taxi, and <1% military. 44 aircraft were then based at this airport: 84% single-engine, 11% multi-engine, and 5% ultralight.

United Airlines DC-3s landed at Rock Springs until 1952; the last Frontier Convair left in 1984-85. For a short time, Delta Connection operated flights to Salt Lake City, Utah and Gillette, Wyoming.
