In December 2000, Roberto Carlos won the WBO NABO Light Flyweight Championship by beating former Champion Victor Burgos in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

IBF Minimumweight Championship

On April 29, 2001 Leyva won the IBF Minimumweight Championship by upsetting an undefeated Daniel Reyes of Colombia.
