Robert deMaine (born December 6, 1969 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) is an American virtuoso cellist. He is known as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral principal, recording artist, composer/arranger, artistic director, and teacher.

Robert deMaine Master Class: Mayuzumi Bunraku for Solo Cello
Early life

deMaine made his orchestral début at age 12 with the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra (now the Oklahoma City Philharmonic), playing Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33.
Competitions

The recipient of many significant national and international honors and awards, Robert deMaine was named the winner of the fifth Irving M. Klein International Competition for Strings in San Francisco.
Current activities

In 2012, Robert deMaine was named Principal Cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic by Music Director Gustavo Dudamel. DeMaine was Principal Cellist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from 2002-2012, hired by then-Music Director, Neeme Järvi. He is a faculty member of the Colburn School, Music Academy of the West, and the Montecito International Music Festival. Additionally, deMaine is the Artistic Director of the Classical American Homes Preservation Trust, which presents chamber music concerts throughout the United States.
Compositions
DeMaine has written music for the cello which he regularly performs, including 2 concerti he composed at the age of age 16 and 12 Études-Caprices from 1999. He has also written several song cycles for voice and piano, various chamber music pieces, and numerous cadenzas for cello concertos by Joseph Haydn and Luigi Boccherini, also improvising these around a set harmonic framework during live performances.
