Robert Earl Brister was a United States Navy officer during World War II, who was presumed lost at sea.

Biography

He was born in Galveston, Texas, 4 May 1920. He enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in 1941 and was commissioned an Ensign in 1942. He was officially reported missing in action 2 May 1942 when USS Cythera (PY-26), on which he was serving, was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-402 off the coast of North Carolina.

Namesake

In 1943, the destroyer escort USS Brister (DE-327) was named in his honor.
