Lakeman started playing Donkey Kong in 2011 when a friend challenged him to get into the top 20. Previously he was a golfer and a competitive poker player. He beat Hank Chien's longstanding record that had stood since 2012 of 1,138,600 on September 4, 2014 with a score of 1,141,800.
