Canning has been a regular fill in presenter for Brad McEwan on Sports Tonight and hosted the Friday night edition and 5:30pm weekend editions until the show was axed in September 2011.

In January 2011, Canning was appointed weekend sports presenter on Sydney's Ten Evening News however this bulletin only lasted until September due to poor ratings and the bulletin was once again made national.
