Rizwan Asghar is a Pakistani investigative journalist, political scientist, nuclear security expert, and military and defence analyst.

Biography

Asghar attended the Government College University (GCU), Lahore where he studied political science, philosophy and history in 2006. He gained BA (with honours) in Political science in 2010 from Government College University, Lahore . In 2013, he attained MPhil in Defence and Strategic Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and went to the United States for advanced studies.

Ashgar has also worked as Visiting Fellow at Monterey Institute of International Studies, California and Sandia National Labs, New Mexico in 2013. In 2015, he earned another MA degree in Political Science from the University of New Mexico.

Publications

Ashgar has published more than 300 articles on a diverse range of issues. He is a columnist for the newspaper The News International. His articles have been quoted in a number of policy reports. His columns are highly critical of Pakistan's nuclear policy. He is considered to be liberal, arguing passionately the restrained nuclear weapons policy. He has written some controversial stories about Pakistan's policy to develop tactical nuclear weapons. He has also faced criticism for his views on Pakistan's emerging nuclear posture.
