History

East Kildonan Knights owner John Haasbeek folded his team in April 1981 after nine seasons. Haasbeek was then approached by Barry Bonni about keeping a team in the area. The two worked together and formed the new River East Royal Knights.

The Knights have been to the league finals twelve times, winning seven Jack McKenzie Trophy championships.
