Review
On this album Johnson really show his eminence as a performer and the exquisite guitar work of Monder accompanies the marvel of percussionist Tunçboyaciyan result in a very good album. Right Brain Patrol brings together individual compositions by the musician, and two collaborative works between Johnson and Monder, «Whispers» and «The call». Interpretations of bass and guitar are stellar at all times. So we hear on the first track «They Love My Fifteen Feet Away», where Tunçboyaciyan adds voice in addition to the percussion. In «Batuki Burundi» we hear Johnson on a tune that reflects all his technique. In «Netcong On My Mind» blues and soul inspired guitar of Monder shows its strength. The gorgeous title tune «Right Brain Patrol» has a shared leadership between Monder and Johnson, and displays an animated conversation between them. On «Heru Nazel» Johnson give us a beautiful job with the bow on the upright bass together with Monder's guitar, but it also has some of the vocal arrangements showing the Armenian roots of Tunçboyaciyan, expressed by the Turkish percussionist. The good work of water percussion shown on «You» serves as an introduction to the next topic, «After You» in which Johnson demonstrates the melodic qualities of low intensity, equipping to his bass an astounding beauty and expressiveness. Definitely a great album where members of the trio bring each his own rounding on a really good recording of varied shades.
