Rick Amato is an American national television host, radio host, columnist and political commentator.

He is widely regarded as a conservative commentator although he is often critical of the Republican Party and views himself as an Independent.

Amato is an advocate for capitalism, limited government, and grassroots politics. He believes the greatest political threat facing the American people today is not from the Left, but instead, from the growing disconnect which exists in both political parties between elected officials and those they were elected to represent.

Personal life

Amato was born in the western Pennsylvania steel town of Sharon, Pennsylvania and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is the grandson of Italian and German immigrants. Amato is a graduate of The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania where he majored in Marketing and minored in Economics and Accounting.

Ricks background includes working as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch. He founded Amato Wealth Management Group, which prior to being sold in 2006 was named The Top Financial Advisor Firm in La Jolla, California by The La Jolla Light newspaper.

Media career

He received his first-ever radio experience by co-hosting The Business Of Sports on XTRA radio in San Diego along with Jim Rome. At the time he working as a Financial Adviser with Merrill Lynch and had built a niche clientele of professional athletes. That in turn, led to him co-hosting The Business Of Sports.

In April 2008 he became the first-ever radio host for The Washington Times newspaper with the launch of Inside the Story with Rick Amato. The show tagline was: Politics, Pop Culture and National security.

In February 2013 he became the host of his first television show, "The Rick Amato Show" on the One America News Network. Currently he hosts "Politics And Profits with Rick Amato"

Television

In July 2016 Rick Amato became the host and executive producer of the TV show "Politics And Profits with Rick Amato". The show's tagline is, "Following the trends on Capitol Hill that lead to the profits on Wall Street". The show features top news maker guests from politics, money, pop culture and current events. The show also features biting, often times humorous commentary from Rick Amato. The show currently airs in prime time, 8pmPT Monday - Friday, on KSDY TV in San Diego, California. On August 30, 2016 the International Communications Network announced its plans to nationally syndicate the TV show "Politics And Profits with Rick Amato".

From February 2013 to June 2015 he was the host of the national prime time political TV talk show "The Rick Amato Show" on the right-of-center One America News Network. "The Rick Amato Show" was broadcast into 15 million homes across America and aired weeknights 10pmET / 7pmPT. The show featured headline guests discussing the key current event news stories of the day. Examples of guests who appeared on the show included Steve Forbes, Rick Santorum, Gloria Allred, Dinesh D'Souza, Col. Allen West, Patricia Smith (whose son Sean Smith was the first body discovered at Benghazi) among many others. The show's tagline was: 'From the edge of America'.

Radio

He was the host of The Rick Amato Show on KCBQ in San Diego, and also of Inside the Story with Rick Amato on Washington Times Radio News on wsRadio.

The Rick Amato Show received 1st Place in back to back years in the San Diego Press Club's prestigious "Excellence In Journalism Award" in the Talk Radio – Best Interview category. The ceremony was held the years 2009 and 2010. These were the only two years Rick's show was entered.

Political activities and commentary

Crowd size and fears for public safety' were the reasons given for the cancellation of one of his shows. He was to broadcast 'live' from outside the gates of Camp Pendleton Marine base in order to raise awareness of the government's treatment of The Pendleton 8. However the Oceanside, California police department expressed concerns over public safety due to the anticipated large crowd size forcing cancellation of the broadcast. Instead he rallied on behalf of the Pendleton 8 from inside his San Diego studio. He has used his show to raise thousands of dollars in legal defense funds for lower level, enlisted military members accused of wrongdoing in the War on Terror and for severely wounded veterans.

Pop culture

Rick Amato believes conservatives need to do a better job of embracing pop culture instead of pushing away from it. Conservative Hollywood actor-filmmaker Robert Davi often acts as a guest host for Amato on The Rick Amato Show.
