Richards M. "Doc" Miller is a dentist and one of the founders of the Venturing (Boy Scouts of America) program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Doc Miller is an Eagle Scout, recipient of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, and Silver Buffalo Award recipient. He is also a leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church).

Personal and family life
Doc Miller resides in Waynesboro, Virginia with his wife Georgiana Hardesty Miller. He is the father of four daughters and one son (an Eagle Scout) and currently has 14 grandcildren. He attended Brigham Young University (BYU) and was a BYU Cheerleader from 1967–1969; where he became the head cheerleader and a member of the Cougar Club.
His family was selected as Model Waynesboro Family for Community Family Week 1996. The Millers have hosted foreign exchange students from Japan, Spain, and Brazil.
Scouting
Miller became an Eagle Scout in 1959 and was an usher at President Kennedy's inauguration. He was a member of the Knights of Dunamis. He helped to found the local chapter of its successor, the National Eagle Scout Association and was the chairman. Heavily involved at the unit level, he was a Scoutmaster for seven years.
At the council level, he was a neighborhood commissioner, council president of the Stonewall Jackson Area Council and later the council commissioner. He served on many local training courses as an instructor and mentor. Active in the Order of the Arrow since 1957, he served as lodge adviser.
Civic life
Doc Miller has been an avid volleyball coach, serving with the Waynesboro City League for ten years and on numerous Latter Day Saint (LDS) church leagues for several years. From 1986–1997 he was the Junior Varsity volleyball coach at Wilson Memorial High School in Fishersville, Virginia. He was the Junior Olympic Volleyball Coach in 1995, 1997 and 1998.
He served with the local United Way from 1976–1980 as a member of the board of directors, on the budget committee and as a training chairman. He was awarded the
