History

Richard Ruin was formed in 2003 with the intent of creating a film soundtrack, which has yet to actually be filmed. The original members included Mike Strauss (Les Hommes Sauvages), Dirk Müller und Yoyo Röhm (Ben Becker's Zero Tolerance Band). Soon thereafter Roderick Miller (Bee and Flower) and Stefan Creutzburg (Ben Becker's Zero Tolerance Band) joined the band. The following years saw a variety of lineups, including guests on the first album "The Heimlich Manoeuvre" Thomas Wydler (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), Larry Mullins aka Toby Dammit (Iggy Pop / Jessie Evans) and Kristof Hahn (Swans / Les Hommes Sauvages). Jochen Arbeit (Einstürzende Neubauten) and Achim Färber (Project Pitchfork) have taken part in several live performances.

The sound of the band changes constantly, and is difficult to place in specific genre. There are elements of rock, chanson, as well as electronica, from industrial to drone. This is in part explained by the many collaborations with other artists, but also from consistent pressure with the band for change. The one constant element in the music is the predominantly dark mood.

Since Richard Ruin often uses visual mediums such as actors in their performances, the number of concerts are relatively few, but at specifically chosen and generally non-rock performance venues.
